The Canadian Association of Technical Accident Investigators and Reconstructionists - Prairie Region and the Winnipeg Police Service are pleased to host the 2010 CATAIR Course, Conference and AGM at the Fairmount Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba from August 16th to 20th.
Instructors from the Florida based Institute of Police Technology and Management will be conducting a 5 day course covering the unique characteristics of commercial motor vehicles and the distinctive dynamics at play when a commercial vehicle is involved in a collision. Course participants will take part in a hands on exercise inspection as well as be involved in live testing involving two types of commercial vehicles.
ACTAR Certification Examination

Conference participants will begin the conference on Friday, August 20th by attending the same live testing that is being offered to the Commercial Vehicle Crash Collision Course attendees. Information and photos acquired at this testing will be provided to all conference participants.
Transportation from the hotel to the test site will be provided. Lunch will be served on site.
On Saturday August 20th, a dynamic group of speakers will be on hand for the conference to provide pertinent information on the topic of commercial vehicle collision investigations.
Patrick Robins, Ph.D.
A recognized expert in the human factors of driving will examine factors specific to commercial driving.
Sebastian vanNooten P.Eng
Like modern passenger vehicles, commercial trucks contain a wealth of information for investigators. This session will focus on the type of data you can receive from a commercial vehicle Event Data Recorder (EDR).
Dr. Bob Greene, MD, LLB
With years of experience in this field, Dr. Greene will touch on the legalities surrounding the use of data from a commercial vehicle’s Event Data Recorder as evidence.
Cpl. Dave Gibbs, RCMP (Fort McMurray)
Corporate Gibbs will present a case study of collisions on what is known as “Highway of Death” in Alberta to wrap up the day.
Winnipeg Police Traffic Collision Unit and the Vehicle Inspection Unit are pleased to be working with CATAIR to provide these training opportunities.
On Friday, August 20th they would like to invite all course and conference participants to attend a Meet and Greet at the Fairmount Hotel. Time TBA.
